Family at the centre.
Omid Romal is a film director and entrepreneur with Afghan roots, based in England. Behind his work is a personal story that brings together different countries, a close connection with his brothers, and a family of his own.
Before making his debut feature, Omid worked in hospitality and ran restaurants. Film became another way to draw on the people, places and experiences he knew. He made his debut feature, Gadens Melodi, in Denmark.
In his festival interview, he described making videos with friends and siblings when he was young, long before directing his first feature. That family connection continues through his collaborations with Arian and Ryan.

Away from work
Life with his wife
and the girls.
Omid lives in England with his wife, Huda Romal, and their three daughters, Maya, Naya and Raya. He met his wife through work. Today, alongside their own careers, they share the everyday responsibilities of raising a family.
Omid spends a lot of time with the girls and takes an active interest in their education and development. He follows what is happening at nursery and school, what they are learning and how their needs change as they grow. For him, being a father means being involved in the ordinary parts of their lives, as well as the bigger moments.
His wife is trained in hair and beauty. Away from work, Omid shares a passion for motorcycles and the outdoors with his wife - an interest with its own place in their relationship, alongside life as parents.
Fatherhood also influences Omid’s work. Seeing things from a parent’s point of view has led him to develop ideas for tools he would find useful himself. His daughters are part of the reason projects such as Nurtalo and AYAmail began.

Fatherhood & inspiration
His girls give
the ideas purpose.
Maya, Naya and Raya are central to Omid’s life. He spends a great deal of time with his daughters and follows their development and education closely. Being their father means staying interested in what they are learning, how they are getting on and the changing needs of each child.
He sees the connection between home, nursery and school as an important part of that involvement. Clear communication helps a parent understand a child’s day and feel more connected to the people caring for them. His own experience of that relationship has become a starting point for his ideas as a developer.
Nurtalo began when he encountered the app connecting his children’s nursery with home and saw an opportunity to make that experience clearer and more reassuring for parents and easier for staff.
AYAmail carries their names: mAYA, nAYA and rAYA. The same family connection appears in AYAAI at SiteWig, while NINAAI is named after his mother. These are personal connections woven into the things he builds.

A family connection.
Across generations.
Family runs through Omid’s creative life as well as his home life. His relationships with his brothers Arian and Ryan have continued into music and film.
Arian and Omid are listed as co-directors of The Secret Dimension. Ryan appears in Gadens Melodi. Their work gives those family connections a creative expression, with each brother contributing through his own discipline.
The names of Omid’s technology projects also carry personal meaning. His mother Nina gives her name to NINAAI, an assistant at SiteWig. His daughters’ names inspired AYAmail and AYAAI. They connect the things he creates with the people who matter to him.

Harley-Davidson & the outdoors
The open road.
A shared passion.
Away from film sets and screens, Omid and his wife share a love of motorcycles, the outdoors and the freedom of the open road. Harley-Davidson holds a special place in Omid’s passion for Harleys.
For him, motorcycling brings together the pleasure of riding and the chance to experience the outdoors. The road, the changing landscape and the feeling of being out in the open are all part of what he loves about it.
Harley-Davidson has a particular place in that passion. He enjoys the character of the motorcycles and the experience of a ride: being present, taking in the surroundings and appreciating the journey itself.
For his wife, Huda, that love goes back to childhood. Motorcycles hold a special connection to her memories of holidays in Palestine and Lebanon with her father. Those early experiences remain part of what makes the passion meaningful to her today.
It is an interest they share as a couple: a love of motorcycles and the outdoors that sits alongside their family life and gives them something to enjoy together.
Alongside his life as a husband, father, filmmaker and developer, this love of motorcycles offers another view of Omid - someone who values time outside, nature and the simple pleasure of the open road.
